FT: Aston Villa 2-1 West Ham
West Ham boss Graham Potter, speaking to ITV: “The start of the game was really good.
“I thought we had good organisation and offered a threat and reduced Aston Villa to not too much.
“The second half Aston Villa stepped-up and pushed us back a bit too much.
“Losing Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville affected our attacking part of the game.”
On Aston Villa’s equaliser: “I don’t think the first goal was a corner, it didn’t look it.
“2-1 down, we regrouped and pushed at the end.”
On the performance: “Overall, disappointed to go out, but lots of positives in the game.
“We had to adjust without Crysencio and that affected our attacking play – Villa pushed us back.
“We ended up too deep and with the ball we couldn’t sustain enough attacks, but that’s something we will have to improve.
“The players for the last two days have been good. We have to hang on to the positives.
“We dropped too deep and the injuries to the attacking players were a blow for us.”
