It looks like New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams has the West Coast on his mind.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that Adams is “intrigued” by returning to play on the West Coast and that he would be “open” to teams like the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Fowler also noted the San Francisco 49ers as a possible suitor.
“The Jets must address the future of receiver Davante Adams, whose $38.3 million cap hit is untenable,” Fowler wrote. “A source told me Adams is intrigued by a return to the West Coast and would be open to potentially joining teams such as the Rams or Chargers — if he gets released. I would put the 49ers in the conversation, too. Adams grew up in Northern California.”
Adams has an out in his contract that would carry a dead cap hit in 2025 of just $8.3 million, or a little over $2 million if he were released or traded after June 1. If he were to remain with the Jets on his current deal, he would carry a cap hit of $38.3 million in 2025 and 2026, so a contract restructure would be necessary.
He had 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns while splitting the 2024 season between the Las Vegas Raiders and Jets. This was his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season.
If he were to depart from the Jets, joining either Los Angeles team would be a boost to those offenses. The Rams went 10-7 and reached the Divisional Round after defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round. The Rams have made the postseason in three of the last four seasons and Adams could help replace Cooper Kupp after the wide receiver announced the team has plans to trade him.

I was informed that the team will be seeking a trade immediately and will be working with me and my family to find the right place to continue competing for championships. I don’t agree with the decision and always believed it was going to begin and end in LA.

Still, if there’s… pic.twitter.com/XWmbGVscGy
The Chargers went 11-6 in 2024 but fell disappointingly to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round. Rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey led the team with 1,149 yards, and adding Adams to the receiver room could help quarterback Justin Herbert as the team looks to take a step forward.
The 49ers would also be an intriguing option due to Adams growing up in the Bay Area but it would require him to take a team-friendly deal due to the significant committed monetary value on the roster.
