The cold has continue to push into Iowa with many of us seeing temperatures struggling to make it out of the teens. Our cold will continue to deepen this weekend with highs only topping out in the mid to upper teens, which will become common for most of next week as well.Interactive Radar | Weather AlertsEyes turn towards the much-mentioned system tracking our direction this weekend. Models have continued to trend south with the track of the low pressure, taking the heaviest of the snow south along with it. What does this mean for Iowa? Across the board our totals will be much lower with locations north of I-80 possibly not seeing much if any accumulating snow.Areas south of the Missouri border will have the best chances for accumulations of snow in excess of 8″. We may see a small area in our southernmost row of counties along the Missouri border pick up 3-5″ of snow, but even that is suspect with recent model trends. As we had talked about over the past couple days, the heavy snow totals would depend on the area of high pressure to the north and how it interacts with the encroaching low, which now looks to be further pushing it into Missouri.Time will tell if those model trends hold true, but it’s enough at this point to build some confidence that most of us won’t see a significant snowfall except far southern portions of the state. Snow moves in late Saturday and most locations I-80 southward will likely see at least some flakes flying. The main surge of snow on Sunday looks to be confined mainly to the southern row of counties.There is still ample time for things to change, and any northern shift would mean an increase in our snowfall totals across the board with the heaviest still to the south, but we’ll be closely monitoring the forecast for any of these types of changes.
