No. 6 UConn Takes Down Villanova

STORRS, Conn. – Four Huskies scored in double digits as the No. 6 UConn women’s basketball team (18-2, 9-0 BIG EAST), 100-57, Wednesday evening in a sold-out Gampel Pavilion.

“I said to the team after the game, I don’t necessarily evaluate a game based on the final score,” head coach Geno Auriemma said. “For me, it’s about the decisions that we make over the course of the game. We scored a lot of points because the ball went in. The ball went in because we made good decisions with the ball. Our decision making defensively was good too. … We’re making a lot of great decisions right now and that’s going to pay o??.”

Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers had a dominant performance vs. the Wildcats, notching 21 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and three steals in 26 minutes.

Freshman Sarah Strong led UConn with 22 points while graduate student Kaitlyn Chen scored 17, her most as a Husky.

Bueckers, Strong and Chen combined to shoot 79.3 percent from the floor and 77.8 percent from three-point range.

UConn had a 12-2 run to start the game and didn’t stop the momentum. The Huskies took a 31-15 lead at the end of the first.

The Huskies shot 70.8 percent through the first three quarters.

Sophomore KK Arnold also scored in double digits, finishing with 11.

UConn faces Creighton (16-3, 8-0) in a battle for first place in the BIG EAST this Saturday in Omaha, Neb., at 5:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
