Quiet today, but more snow on the way

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Our Wednesday is looking rather quiet with a few sunny breaks possible to start the day, followed by increasing clouds into this afternoon and evening. High temperatures will climb back into the teens and lower 20s for this afternoon. Clouds will give way to snow showers after sunset tonight, with snow becoming widespread into the early morning hours Thursday. Warmer air pushing in on Thursday means there may be a bit of a wintry mix with some sleet and freezing rain. Travel will be tricky during the day on Thursday. All said and done, most of us run 1-3″ of new snow with 3-6″ possible in the higher elevations. The St. Lawrence River Valley may even run an additional 6-12″. The highest icing potential will be across southern Vermont. While it is not a lot of ice, there is no doubt it will be enough to slicken up roads on top of the snow they see.

There will be a nice lull in the action just in time for Valentine’s Day on Friday. There will be patchy sunshine once again, with highs in the 20s.

Then get ready for what could be a nor’easter over the weekend. Right now, it looks like the storm will move in on Saturday. After a little lull on Saturday night, the storm will redevelop with a vengeance, possibly bringing some widespread, heavy amounts of snow. Lingering snow showers with blustery conditions will be the story for Presidents’ Day on Monday. Both the American and European models are now hinting at fairly widespread 6-12″ of new snow, but we are still several days out and things may change. We’ll be keeping a close eye on it.
