The Washington, DC Metro is on track to see a few inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday

WASHINGTON — We will have to break out the shovels once again Tuesday in D.C. The WUSA9 Weather Team is tracking another round of  snow in the DMV region Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

What:  Snow Tuesday Feb. 11
When:  Starting Tuesday morning as early as 5 a.m. Lighter after 8 p.m., Ending 7a.m. – 8 a.m. Wednesday
How Much:  Early estimates: DC Metro 2″ – 4″, south of DC 3″- 5″, north of DC 1″ – 3″
Impact:  Untreated roads could become snow covered, schools may be delayed or closed, and telework may be offered.

Snow is on the table Tuesday as a low pressure system moves across the area.  The current thinking is that this will start off as snow late Tuesday morning and last through the day. The latest guidance has the heavies snow shifting south of D.C. into southern Maryland.

An early estimate of accumulations shows the potential for around 3 inches of snow, depending on your location.  Latest models bring the heavier bands of snow south of D.C.  This could mean lighter amounts in the northern suburbs and higher amounts in the southern areas like La Plata.

This could be enough snow to cause school delays or closings, and snow and slush on roads will lead to unsafe driving conditions. We want to emphasize that it is still early, and this forecast will change.

Overall, next week will feature an active weather pattern with a series of low pressure systems passing by. A system passing to our south Monday could give our southern counties a few passing flurries. The best chance for snow, however, is Tuesday.

There could be a few flakes and rain left over Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon looks dry before showers or another mix return Wednesday night. Thursday will feature mostly rain, but it could start off as a mix early Thursday morning before switching to all rain.
