UVA emergency incident stable, suspect detained


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – UPDATE: The University of Virginia says the active attacker incident is stable and the suspect is detained. The shelter-in-place has been lifted.

Police will remain on the scene.

One person was stabbed and was in critical condition Thursday evening around 4:30, according to Charlottesville Police. They were transported to UVA Medical Center.

Neither the suspect, nor the victim, has any known affiliation with the University of Virginia, according to a UVA statement.

The University of Virginia sent out a text alert around 4:49 p.m., Thursday, February 27.

UVA Department of Safety and Security describes the suspect as a middle-aged white male, in a white t-shirt, blue pants, and white shoes.
